Bio

His play, "Café Depresso: Where Prozac, Caffeine and Black Leather Converge," premiered at San Diego’s Sushi Performance Art Gallery. In San Francisco, “Depresso” played a sold-out run at the Exit Theatre. He also appeared in the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival production of “King Lear" at the Gershwin Theatre.

Thom is proud of his apprenticeships in numerous summer stock theatres in New England, the Mid-Atlantic and the Middle West where he appeared with Ruby Keeler and Tammy Grimes.

Other credits include writing and directing "Friday Night Refugees" with words and music by Romanofsky and Phillips and directing assignments at Fritz Blitz, La Jolla Stage Co., Theatre Rhinoceros and others.

He produced Theatre Rhinoceros’ “The AIDS Show” at San Diego State University (1985) and founded Diversionary Theatre (1986). Thom is a graduate of the Acting program at Boston University, School of Fine Arts.

Most challenging performance: playing Valere in “The Miser” for Fairmount Theatre of the Deaf. The job required performing the role in sign language and “voicing” a deaf actor’s performance. Getting tongue tied sometimes took on a new meaning in that show.

A Brief History

The central members of Not Man Apart - Physical Theatre Ensemble: group began as a training program ten years ago, Performing Arts Conservatory Carmel (PACC) was erected in the summer of 1999 by John Farmanesh-Bocca as an occupational/vocational performance program for aspiring teen theatre artists between the ages of 15 - 19 years of age. The curriculum was based on the physical theatre works of Jerzy Grotowski, Steve Wangh, Sanford Meisner, Wendell Beavers, Tadashi Suzuki, Joseph Chaikin, and the works of other Master Teachers of the Experimental Theatre Wing at New York University. Over time specific physical theatre approaches developed by PACC became a vocabulary unique to the company. Many of these techniques are still employed by the former Company Members and John in his work at both NYU and The Juilliard School. After ten-years most of the members of PACC are degree holding professionals many of who comprise the members of the Not Man Apart Ensemble.
